We are looking for energetic and reliable volunteers to assist with this annual Los Angeles Triathlon! The Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Triathlon presented by Herbalife today announced that L.A. LIVE Nokia Plaza in downtown Los Angeles will be the new site of its finish line for the 9th annual event on September 7, 2008. The 40,000 sq. ft. open-air plaza will serve as the finish line festival for athletes and spectators to enjoy music, food, sponsor exhibits, camaraderie and medals. The venue provides unique design and technology opportunities for the Festival to broadcast race coverage and sponsor promotions to participants and spectators through giant LED screens. This annual event is put together by the Pacific Sports LLC. Pacific Sports LLC is a premier sports consultation firm, specializing in event production, management, and corporate sports representation. Pacific Sports LLC is dedicated to the management of the highest quality multi-sport events; including triathlons, marathons, and other participant sports events. 100 volunteers are needed on September 12 and 13, 2008 to assist with this annual 5K / 10K run/walk and wellness expo. On the 12 th, volunteers are needed to set-up tables and chairs, and unload boxes (some of the items may be heavy) from a truck. Volunteers will be needed from 1 to 4 p.m. Then on the 13 th, help is needed from 5:30 am to 11:30 am to blow-up balloons, distribute T-shirts and Goodie Bags, set-up the food station, help Exhibitors, hang banners and signs, set-up stage, stage area, start and finish lines, registration area and man water stations on the race course. This annual fundraising event will provide scholarships for 17-23 year old girls from low-income families or young women who are a part of Children and Family Services or have been on probation. On the weekend of September 12 through 14, 2008, the streets of Long Beach will be filled with over 2,500 men and women dedicated to taking a stand against breast cancer. These individuals have been training and fundraising for months in preparation for the walk, and they are ready to take on the challenge of walking 39.3 miles in support of our cause. However, they cannot do this without you, the fabulous volunteers who will help these dedicated men and women meet their goals and accomplish this wonderful feat. We would like to invite you to register as a volunteer on this year’s Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Los Angeles. As a volunteer, you will be an absolutely crucial part of the event. You will be involved in all different aspects of the walk, including checking in and registering participants, cheering for the walkers along the route, distributing t-shirts, and directing traffic. What’s more, you will have the chance to become a part of the Avon Walk community and connect with the thousands of men and women that make up this wonderful group. About 100 volunteers are needed and must be at least 16 years of age. Sober Day is an annual festival to create awareness and access to services for prevention and recovery from substance abuse and violence. This event is put together by a nonprofit who produces special events, TV programming and activities to help prevent substance abuse and violence and also provides support to people in recovery, referrals to treatment and have an outpatient counseling service, do interventions and aftercare. Volunteers are needed on September 20 and 21, 2008. 30 volunteers are needed (15 each day) to assist with registering vendors and community members, helping vendors set up, ushering, assist with distributing tables and chairs, greeting performers, handing out raffle tickets, serving food, clean up after the event, and more. All proceeds raised from this tournament directly benefit children’s charities, helping to improve the quality of life for children in our community. One of these Children Charities is a local nonprofit based in Hollywood who had offered a safe, nurturing haven for families with children undergoing treatment for cancer and other catastrophic illness for more than 25 years now. The Macy’s Passport is a major annual fashion event designed to raise social awareness about HIV / AIDS related issues and raises funds to benefit HIV / AIDS research, care, prevention and education. This event has been going on for the last 25 years. A local Los Angeles-based organization who is dedicated to: improving the lives of people affected by HIV disease; reducing the incidence of HIV infection; and advocating for fair and effective HIV-related public policy, one of the beneficiaries for this year’s event, is looking for about 300 volunteers from September 22 thru 26, 2008. 20 to 25 volunteers are needed for 12 different shifts available for the five-day long event. Volunteer duties include preparing gift bags, placing seat cushions, distributing prizes and acting as resources for this event. Other duties will be as needed. *Additional shifts may be added. Nearly 4,000 people (including over 3,000 high school students training for the marathon) will be out walking, running or volunteering to help raise awareness and funds to prevent suicide. This is an annual event hosted by a private 501C3 nonprofit Community Mental Health organization with 64 years of experience providing mental health and substance abuse services in L A County. A Leader in community mental health care nearly 44000 people each year benefit from their services at 9 locations. This annual event is to raise funds for their Suicide Prevention center, the first 24-hour suicide prevention center that offers support for those who have lost a loved-one to suicide, outreach to the community and an Emergency Response Team that works with local police to provide immediate crisis counseling at the scene of a suicide. About 150 Volunteers are needed on SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28,2008 from 6:00 am to 11:00 am and may choose between a 6am-9am or 8am-11am shift (of course, you’re welcome to sign up for both shifts!) You will be helping to set up/tear down, man the food and drink tables, hand out water to runners, coordinate parking, serve as mile timers, etc. Volunteers will work with staff to make sure the morning runs as smoothly as possible. Teens, adults, seniors, families, key clubs and large groups are welcome to volunteer. This is an especially great opportunity for high school and college students looking for a group project or needing to fulfill required volunteer hours.
