The English as a Second Language (ESL) program enables students to acquire basic reading and writing skills in order to function in English on a day-to-day basis. Classes are taught by trained volunteers in a relaxed and friendly environment to make learning an enjoyable experience. The course places a strong emphasis on teaching communicative English which the students can use in their daily lives. In addition to language skills, class time is devoted to developing cultural awareness to help the students better understand the American way of life. By the end of the course, students feel more at ease in the English-speaking community, with improved language skills and increased cultural understanding.
The Citizenship training Program (CTP) helps participants prepare for the U.S. Citizenship Test. The program provides students with an overview of test requirements, offering instruction in both the written and oral portions of the test, with a special emphasis on the history of the American government. CTP teaches participants the responsibilities that go along with citizenship, while helping them attain the privilege of becoming an American citizen.
